Back in the distant past on a dark night when the matariki  stars filled the night sky. There was a man called Moehuri the
When he saw land he did a karakai.  “Guide us safely” said Moehuri. Then sudentlyrose a shark and it guided moehuri safely to
the land. And moehuri called the land mangonui because of the shark.

Moehuri settled at rangikapiti pa moehuri planted kumara crops for his people and
moehuri built ware's for
his village. As moehuri settled he could hear the waves crash against t
he ruf rocks  he could smell the fresh ear around
him.moehuri had many many kids for the whare’s. Wile moehuri was there the
waka was getting older by the minute so moehu
ri decided to sing the waka and everyone knew it was a tuypo place. The shark had
plenty of food and she was happy and so was moehuri.
